Why aren’t shiny new things actually new anymore?

Ok, if I’m spending a few hundred quid on a gadget - I WANT A NEW ONE and I want it to be IN A SEALED BOX!! Is that too much to ask?
I’m seriously fed up of being palmed off with boxes of goodies that have clearly been opened and fiddled with.
If I’m not the first person to touch the flippin’ thing since it was put in the box in China they I shouldn’t have to pay full price for it. Buying stuff in the shop should not be like getting dodgy gear on eBay.
